How to Stick to a Workout Routine When You Don’t Feel Like It

We all have those days when we just do not feel like working out. Maybe we are too tired, or maybe the weather is bad. But sometimes, even on our best days, we just do not feel motivated to go to the gym.

Some people try and get around that feeling by making their own home gym so they are not too far from working out, helping them to feel a bit more motivated on the days when it is toughest.

Whilst this is a solid choice and people are able to hire gym equipment in Scotland, or wherever they live so they can use it as and when they want it without a full commitment, there are still those times when just the thought of working out can be too much.

So, what can you do to make sure you stick to your workout routine? Here are a few tips for you to think about for when you need to motivate yourself.


Make a plan

If you know what you are going to do ahead of time, it is easier to stick to it. Write down your workout routine for the week and put it somewhere you will see it every day. That way, you cannot make excuses not to do it.

You can cover it in colours, glitter, signs, photos, and pretty much anything and everything you want to motivate yourself to stick to your plan. Something that will catch your eye and make you take notice is going to help you out on those days when you want to go back to bed.


Set a goal

It is easier to stick to something if you have a goal in mind. Whether it is losing weight, getting stronger, or just improving your health, having a goal will help you stay on track. You can start off small to help you achieve your goals. If you go too large from the beginning then you are going to feel upset if you do not hit it right away or you are unable to get to it at all.

Small goals will help, and you will be able to focus more and more as time goes on.


Find a buddy

It is always more fun to work out with someone else. Find a friend or family member who is also trying to get in shape and commit to working out together. That way, you can keep each other accountable.

If you really find it difficult to be by yourself, then this will help you out massively. You can share in the ups and downs with someone, swap tips, meal plans, and so on. If one of you falls off a little bit then the other one can encourage them to keep going and get back on the horse. We all need support with things like this.


Make it a habit

The more you do something, the easier it becomes. Make working out a part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. Once it is a habit, you will not even have to think about it.


Be positive

It is important to stay positive when you are trying to make a change in your life. Remind yourself why you are doing this and focus on the benefits of working out. If you can keep a positive attitude, you will be more likely to stick with it.
