It’s on!


I’ve been sitting around waiting for my foot to recover. Actually, I’m not good at sitting around. I’ve been hitting the gym, learning to tape up my limbs, watching the olympics, hitting the gym some more, and driving too and from Canberra.

The Foot is on

Well, it always was. But now I can run on it again. I got some super hot ‘hot mould’ inserts that the physio warmed up and smushed into my shoes. Combined with a bit o’ this:


I should be right. I ran 5km yesterday. It was so exciting to be out on the road again!

I’m still on schedule, I can still run a marathon, and I need to not get injured.

The Plank Challenge is on

Was on. On Monday.

I did 8 planks in 8 hours in some ridiculous situations. Between lectures – always good. And in front of a cafe with friends.

Today’s Moment

Today I had a chat to Dad, and he’s planned out a running route for me so he can ride alongside me for my 25km run when I’m next in Melbourne. Best Dad ever.

Have you ever been struck with a really irritating little injury that wouldn’t be  problem if you weren’t using that part of your body so much? Permission to rant granted. 


  1. Don’t you just love supportive friends and family!

    So excited to see the chicking spreading. Yay!!!!

    As for irritating little injury my ITB on left side drives me nuts. Constant foam rolling to keep it under control and boy do I hate foam rolling!

    Your planking is awesome. So inspired :)

      I love that there’s already a Get Chicking runner in Oz (oddly, I just mispelt that to ‘chocking’ – Cait is seeping into everything).

      Ha! I can imagine you have a hatred of foam rolling if it’s become an absolute must do. I really enjoy it actually – maybe I’m a glutton for a bit of muscle pain.

    Dad’s are the best when it comes to support. I run with mine almost every day and he ran with me at my first race and first half (even though I really slowed him down), I’m glad you’ll have you’re with you for the 25km. My running is going pretty well, serious training starts again next week for a 200 mile relay- yikes!

      Sorry, a 200-mile relay?! I love that your Dad runs with you. I remember reading that every morning he asks if it’s that time already. So sweet :-)

    Glad you are back to running! Being injured is tough when you want to run. I have dealt with my share of running injuries and try to learn from them. It is a great chance to try something new with your workout. This is always tough to think about at the time since I just want to run!

      Thanks Jen. I think you’re right about learning fro injuries and trying something new. Each problem turns into a new routine to prevent t happening again (massage, foam rolling, ice,stretches…).

  4. I’m so glad you are planking with us and that you did the power plank challenge!!! Great job! And I hope the foot keeps healing nicely!!! Yes, I’ve had an irritating injury…for a while my quad was hurting (it was just super tight) but I kept running on it and rolling and eventually it stopped. But it took awhile and was super frustrating!

      Thanks Mindy! I loved the plank challenge – I still have to get all my photos properly uploaded though Grr. The quad does sound irritating – it’s a tricky place to always be in pain. Glad it healed for you.

  5. I’m so glad you’re planking with us! Thanks for doing the power plank challenge! You did awesome! And yes I’ve had an irritating injury before. My quad was super tight and hurt after every run but I kept running and started rolling every day and it eventually stopped. But it was super frustrating!!!

  6. okay, so i tried to comment on this last night but in when i went to post it my flipping internet service cut out and has been offline all night…driving me mad! sooo, i’m not sure if my comment ever went thru or not so i wanted to make sure u kno that i said: 1) u’re rocking those planks girl! 2) YAY for being able to get back to running, foot taping has worked wonders for me too…hehe! 3) you are AWESOME and thanks for helping spread the Get Chicking word…and i can’t WAIT for u to get ur shirts! :)

      Oh, you’d better believe there will be photos of us when we get them. It sounds like they’re really popular too – you might have to do a big photo spread of people wearing them in different places!

  7. Heehee I’m guessing you meant “hot mold” as opposed to “hot mould”. Although leeches are used as a medical device these days, so it would suprise me if I’m wrong.

    ANYWAY. YAYAYAYAYAY! Yay for being back on the foot! That is awesome. And those planks are hilarious, what a great challenge! I love that you got out there and inspired people. Go you!

    I’m so glad you’re running again! I tried this week but afterward my shin was still achy, so I’m thinking it needs another week. Boo. :( But I’d rather heal completely now than have to pull out of a fall race later.
