  1. LOVE VLOGS!!! Yessssssss!

Anyway..I think yes!! the online community/blogging has REALLY helped my running. I actually started reading running blogs before I even stepped foot on the treadmill – it certainly got me interested to run in the first place!
Nowadays,It keeps me motivated to KEEP running and to run much more consistently. I mean, no running means i’ve got nothing to blog about. haha!
Reading everyone’s daily fitness activity is a huge daily motivation for me!

  4. I LOVE your vlogs!
I agree that social media is helping the running community so much.
I know that since I started blogging & SM 8 months ago I have been so much more dedicated because I feel as if I have tons of support and also lots of people I do not want to let down.

I definitely don’t think social media is bad for running – it has definitely encouraged me to run further but….. definitely eats into other time so there is definitely a point to be made that we eat into out time:)
    Love the VLOG!

Thanks Robyn – and yeah, there’s a lot of time i spend on social media that I could be using doing other things. But…it’s totally worth it ;-)

  6. i freaking LOVE ur face and voice! do more of these vlogs!!
i agree with u all the way…the only thing i think can lead to ‘hurting me’ is when i see wat others are doing and i start feeling lazing. as in i pull up twitter and it’s a SLAM of feeds from people saying they just worked out and here i am on my butt reading twitter…lol.
but i think the amount of resources, support, shared tips/experiences is invaluable!

  7. Love, love, love hearing your voice Kate! I agree that social media has been awesome for my running! I have loved meeting other runners around the world! It’s amazing!!!

  9. lurrrrrrrrve the Vlog! So cool. I agree with everything you said. I read the same article in Runners World and I have to say that social media has had nothing but a POSITIVE impact on my running! It is so motivating and inspiring and I believe I get to “live” my running a lot more now I have like-minded people to talk about it with.

I do think comparison can be the down side as we are all on our own journies but we runners have that all sussed. We admire and are inspired by those faster than us, we are motivated by those who are similar to us and we mentor, help and encourage every runner no matter what the pace!

    Did see it. FML!!

  11. TOTALLY agree. I’m well enough motivated, but what absolutely shocked me about the online community (specifically facebook groups and twitter) was exactly as Jenelle described, the mixture of admiration, inspiration, and motivation you can get from runners at all different levels.
Its quite humbling to realise that even as a back-of-the-pack runner, you can inspire others to get out and keep at it!

When your real-life social circle is mostly non-athletic types who just ‘dont get it’ when it comes to running, especially endurance running, it’s quite easy to give in to the ‘why do you bother’ sorts of comments. If it werent for the online support and friends I’ve made through running, I wouldn’t have been able to keep at it.

Who can say meeting craploads of awesome new friends is bad? I mean, if it weren’t for social media you would never have had the pleasure of meeting me Kate!!

On the other side of the fence, social media is just like eating cake and doughnuts, we have to get the balance right :) everything in moderation!

Damn straight – and I am so glad I got to meet you! Now I want doughnuts.

Oh – and I have to agree with you o a circle of friends who ‘get it’being a great reason to be online. You guys frequently make my day.
