Sometimes your goals get drenched

You know those runs that just make you feel like you could run forever? That you’re invincible? That there’s a reason you lace up those shoes each day?

Today I had one.

My natural state

At 6am, I left the house in the dark, and headed straight into torrential rain. The cars splashed me as I passed. No-one was on the road. I was drenched. I had directions written on my arm. I got lost.

At 7am, I met my running group and ran with them around Olympic Park, mapping the course of the Color Run.

Everything about it was perfect.

So that’s a high for this week’s long run, right?

15km later, and fully carbed up again, guess what I’m doing? Heading out to the mountains for another 24km tomorrow. I am S-M-R-T.

Remember #Goalgetter2013?

At the start of each month, everyone is invited to post their goal for the month. At the end of each month, we share an image on instagram to show how we went.

I wanted to feature a couple of good ones – I’m always on the lookout for motivation!

Jill Conyers, who has a most excellent health and fitness blog, wanted to incorporate more strength training into her workout in January. She succeeded!

Jackie smashed her marathon!

Amalia wanted to try new food, smile, and be kinder to others. Those are goals I can get on board with! She claims she had no success to post – but check out this pic:

And February? My goal for February is to run 5km in less than 24 minutes. I’ve never raced a 5km before, so I think it’s realistic!

Meanwhile…

Mr The Rake has cracked.

Rake advent calendar

Today he:

1. Forgot to shower. Who forgets to shower?

2. Bought a suitcase. Before he went to buy groceries. Guess who got to wheel a suitcase around the supermarket? (He put the groceries in it).

3. I asked him if he’d ever even taken his lunch to work -

Once. I didn’t like it. So I never did it again.

Oh, and Mr The Rake’s goal?

He wanted to

Get morbidly obese and fired from my job

(Context here). So far, he’s been going to the gym, has lost weight, and has had his contract extended.

Fail.

Today’s Moment

I only wish I had a photo! Running in the rain…and then meeting a friend for a very late, long and lazy brunch. With lots of carbs!

Your Turn!

When was your last perfect running moment?
Have you ever run long runs back to back?
What’s your goal for February?

Good luck with the 5K :) The key is pushing yourself and getting out of the long race mindset, so tough for me!

Thank you! And thanks for pointing out that you fin it difficult. I’m so well trained to keep enough in the tank to keep going…the need to push to the end is kind of scary.

LOL, I’m dying. Forgetting to shower…sounds like my man actually…how does that even happen. I love to hear that you had such a pleasant run and at 6:00am? Good heavens! My goal is to continue with my core workouts in February. We shall see.

I know! Failing Life 101 seems to be a thing. You need to teach me your core work out ways – whatever you’re doing is better than my pathetic short planks.

  4. I love sharing the #GoalGetter2013 success stories.
When I was beyond buys with a full time job, marathon training, grad school, blogging, etc. and had yet to realize I needed to take time off and didn’t have to be perfect there were days I’d go to bed realizing I hadn’t showered at all. I understand how it could happen to The Rake.

Hope your 24 km went well and the trails weren’t too wet!! I found cycling off road rather soggy today and only cycled the same distance you ran! Good going with the Goalgetter challenge, I would love to join in but think all the social media stuff that I am doing right now is already time consuming enough:)

It was divine – and very slow. The boys on their bikes came back super muddy, so I can understand why it was a bit soggy for you! Stick to what you’ve got on right now – you do heaps; no-one’s ever going to get cross at you for not jumping on the band-wagon ;-)

  6. I love the instagram/goals idea!! i needa get on this instagram thing. man!

Runs that click like that are simply amazing. Sooo happy for you!
