Son of the Rakish Man

I am happy to report that Mr The Rake and I lived happily ever after. Until he came home and I made him go shopping.

I also failed my domestic duties for the day and didn’t fold the washing. He can fold his own.

Pile of laundry

Like a Rake

- Side note, and I can’t believe I never thought of this, but to clear up some confusion, Mr The Rake and I aren’t married. Mr The Rake is his name because:

1. He’s a law-talking guy, and Rake is an Australian TV show about a lawyer (and cocaine)

2. His real surname is Scottish, and comes from ‘son of the Rakish man’

3. I felt like giving him two titles – ‘Mr’ makes him sound masculine and ‘The’ makes him a noun

Spibelt and Gu Review!

You know how much I was looking forward to my Spibelt right?! It came yesterday, and it is oh so pretty.

I wore it for my 10km run today, and I can’t believe how comfortable it is. Totally worth the money.

Even better is that this baby has little elastics for me to hold my gels securely, and grab them as I run (no, you do not need gels for a 10km. Nor do you need a camelbak. Next time I see you in my 10km race, Mr Camelbak, I will hunt you down in my Get Chicking Shirt. Actually, one gel is acceptable for a 10km race. But that’s all I’ll allow >:-S)

Energy belt

With the gels

In conclusion, it’s awesome.

The Gus, on the other hand, are not. I was going to do a proper Gu review, and then I realised that every runner/blogger on the interwebs has done it, so I’ll spare you. But let me know if you have any questions ;-)

All gels are gross. Fact.

See ya Endura

Gu is better than most. The berry was horrendous, and the chocolate would have been good, had my gag reflexes not completely freaked out about the idea of eating something warm and chocolatey in the middle of a run – body says no!

Totally worth it though – there is no way I could get through my long runs without them.

See ya winter

I got home from my run and got dressed… in shorts!

Yep, sorry US – we’ve reclaimed summer.

Who wears short shorts?

Unfortunately, I’ve been inside studying. But my lunch-time run was heaven – I had to wear sunscreen!

Today’s Moment

Liz from tagged me in another blog award. Thanks Liz! This online tagging business is cheesy and gorgeous. I love it every time. I’ll do my response tomorrow.

Your Turn!

Crazy name origins – what does your name mean, and where does it come from?
Have you done you chores today? :-P

Ever used a spibelt or gels?

  1. Mr The Rake says:

My name is Irish thank you very much. Details here –

  2. Liz says:

I have a SPI belt. Actually I have 2. I have been using them for about 2 years. I absolutely love them. Mines do not hold any gels. I like that feature no your belt. I have not run enough miles to use any type of fuel yet, but I need to.

I don’t have any chores here. I just put my laundry out side my door and it magically appears in a couple of days. I eat in a dinning facility so no dishes. I do make my bed, but there is even a cleaning lady that cleans the rooms. I know, don’t player hate. :)

  3. I thought I was the only runner in the world that doesn’t like gu/gels! That said I’ve decided to find one that I can stomach. I need the fuel mid races that are a half or longer. Wish me luck with not gagging!

Good luck! I’m not game for it, but have you considered real food? In the end, those things are caffeine, salt and sugar – all of which you have access to :-D . My Dad claims that flat coke is the way to go. I’m not so sure ;-)

  4. Jenna says:

Omg. You kill me with your relationship with mr the rake! You guys are hilarious! My name means gods gracious gift apparently. Lol! Happy Tuesday love!

  5. Mindy Artze says:

I think it’s time for me to try some GU! I LOVE my spi belt!!! Everyone needs one!

  6. I’m glad to hear you like the spibelt. I have a hard time with things strapped around me (always feel like they’re pressing on my bladder :-) ).

I’ve been using gu for year (I think we had this convo, didn’t we?). I like vanilla and espresso. Not too fond of berry flavors.

My favorite all time gel flavor, which they don’t make any more, was Clif Shot Toffee Peanut Buzz (it had caffeine). It tasted like an Abba Zabba and I loved it. It’s been years and I still haunt the Clif booth at races asking why they would take the best flavor on earth away.

  7. Looking good in those short shorts girl!!! I just received my spibelt yesterday and took it out for a run this morning…LOVED it!!! I think mine is a different model than yours…I don’t have places for Gu on mine. Yes Gu isn’t something I would eat as a snack but I can’t live without it during long runs! Vanilla Bean is about the only flavor I can tolerate.

Lol – thanks! Yeah – I got an energy belt instead of the regular. You’re so right about it being a terrible snack. I’m not one bit tempted to try it unless I have to!

  8. i love the name of your boo! haha its different and cute! Also I got a spibelt in a giveaway a couple of months ago and finally used it! I agree that it was definitely comfy! I’m surprised to how much can fit in the pocket! It was crazy! Glad its becoming summer time there! I am happy it is becoming Fall here! (: {we always want what we can’t have right?}

  9. Only in the summer do I hate carrying anything…here in FL it’s horrible having any extra on my body at all! Other than that I love my SPIbelt! and can you send the memo down here for Winter to start? Please and thank you ;) SPA <3

That Sideshow Bob episode is hilarious! Well, that scene is at least! lol

I’ve had GU once, I just about melted the moment that PB flavour entered my mouth. So good. Great energy boost!

I need to tidy up my wardrobe.
