Water Running


I got into this when everything else hurt. A friend tried to cheer me up by taking me swimming. I do not swim.

After several stop-start laps, and a lot of swallowed chlorinated water (mmm, delicious chlorinated water), I gave up and went running down the length of the pool, much to the amusement of the tourists sharing the lane.

From there, I started heading to the local pool regularly to look like a complete noob in the kiddie lane by thrashing around and ‘running’ on the spot near the diving boards.

How does it work?

The video below gives a great demonstration. But note that there are some options. I, for example, am too lazy to go out an buy a floatation device. Instead, I work my core muscles to keep myslef afloat and upright. If you feel like giving it a try, I can vouch for the fact that you get a damn good workout! 

From what my physio and PT have told me, this is the closest thing to real running. It works your muscles in much the same way, and really helps to improve your fitness.
