Chocolate, clocks, and kanagroos

Easter is a time to eat a truck-load of chocolate. Repent later.

Also – Game of Thrones is back! It may be the only thing Mr The Rake and I have in common. Otherwise it’s running, too many jobs and healthy food v beer, pizza and video games. Also law. And insults.

It’s also a time to STOP for this crazy lady, and get some sleep. And it’s been bliss. However, it’s also nice to be back into the blog world, and there’s a lot to catch up on!

The Running

First and foremost, right?!

kangaroo

Can you spot the kangaroo? She bounced away when she realised that I wasn’t going to back away.

I bloody well earned my chocolate. Or at least half of it.

Yesterday’s 18km trail was a wonderful way to start the count-down to the Canberra half marathon. I’m not taking it all that seriously, but I am looking forward to racing the distance (and for me it marks the point at which the marathon becomes very real). More exciting is that I’ll get to cheer on Jenelle, who is running the full thing.

And on the way into the mountains, I found a kindred spirit in Va. I can now say I’ve met a woman who took a clock to bed in the middle of the night, only to wake up at 4am, and be struck by the realisation that a large wall clock will only tell her the time – not wake her up. She got up to get her daughter out of bed to put the clock back on the wall, and plugged her normal alarm clock back in.

Va and I - still smiling post-race and pre-breakfast.

The Blog

Apparently I was nominated for a best Australian blog competition. I’m fairly sure I don’t have a snowflake’s chance in hell, but if you can spare a moment to click on me, please do!

The Goal

#goalgetter2013 hasn’t been on my radar enough this month. The two week break didn’t help!

My goal for March was to spend more time running outside – and to get in a great tempo. Sadly, this was totally derailed. Between knee problems and no running, this was a mostly cross-training month.

Anyone want to share their goal this month? In April, I want to get in three weights sessions a week, with the exception of the Canberra half weekend.

I think this will help me build some strength before I hit marathon training for real. Maybe I’ll even start to like it!

The Goal Getter Challenge: At the start of each month, choose a goal to aim for. On the last day of the month, post a photo with your progress to instagram or twitter using the #goalgetter2013 tag. See you there!

Mental Monday

I can think of no better way than this to get ready for the new week ahead.

Mental Monday

My negative: there is so much I haven’t looked at all weekend, it’s going to be  mess to sort out!

My positive: I am rested, happy, and back in my runners -the world can work around me.

Your Turn!

What blog posts have you loved this week? (Give me things to read!)
What do you do to celebrate Easter?
Your Mental Monday Moment?
Are you into the chocolate thing, or do like Easter for other reasons?

Morning morning :) . Good luck with your strength training, I’m sure it will actually help you in the marathon training by building up your endurance (lots of reps with lower weights will do that) so probably a good time to do it. No chocolate bunnies around here but plenty of mini eggs hehe.

Ooh Kate, today I celebrated Easter by eating an entire milk chocolate Lindt bunny, after running 8km. I am not feeling guilty in the slightest, he was my only Easter chocolate and now he is gone. Moving on and back on the healthy track!
My Mental Monday moment actually happened on Saturday when I realised that I had grown very negative in my attitude lately – bum bah – time to instigate some gratitude in my life instead. My positive: a week off from uni to catch up on study and spend some time out with my Mum on Tuesday just us girls. My goal getter for April is to include at least two strength sessions and five runs per week (only 14 weeks until Gold Coast).
I am into Game of Thrones as well, but I am just reading the books at the moment and Chris has seen all the shows but won’t let me watch them until I’ve read the corresponding books. Thank goodness I just finished book one! I do keep pestering him and asking him what happens to my favourite characters though…
Good luck with your training this week Miss Kate!

Mmmmm Lindt Bunny. How I love it!

Oh, your moment sounds fabulous. Good on you for taking time out. Good luck with your training too! And … can you lend me the books?! ;-)

  3. I had a chocolate protein shake for Easter ;)

Love spending it with family and friends!

  4. I am so jealous that you get to see kangaroos on your trail runs! Thank you for sharing so I can live vicariously through you. Glad you had a nice Easter, I ate my share of bunnies as well!

  5. I can’t see the kangaroo! Where is it?! I stared at that picture for a good 5 minutes, I think i went cross-eyed.

Also, I feel like I’m missing something major having never seen Game of Thrones. My parents basically kicked me out of the house early to head back to my own apartment so they could watch the Season 3 opener in peace.

  7. Very cool about the blog nomination. I’ll vote for ya ;)
I tend to eat too many pastel robin eggs on Easter… Not so much into the chocolate bunnies. I lol’d at Va and the clock!

  8. I’m so jealous you got to see a kangaroo on your run. The wildest creature I’ve ever come into contact with was a raccoon. And I’m pretty sure he was someone’s pet. But I learned that he really, really like Honey Stingers chews. ;)

Too much fun :-) . The kangaroos are great, but kind of scary – these mothers had joeys in their puches, so were not very friendly. They’re pretty dangerous, so I was thankful when they hopped away.

And glad to know you’re a game of thrones addict too!

Hey Kate, I’m just trying to get back to my blog reading. You have a great blog and I hope you win. And how amazing is it that you saw a Kangaroo. WOW! :)

  11. I am SO going to go vote for you! You know it’s funny – when I was in Oz a few years ago, all of the mobs of wallabies and kangaroos we came across were ridiculously friendly and it seemed like that wouldn’t be normal… so I guess it isn’t normal? And also please tell me that among the chocolate you ate, Tim Tams were in there because I really f*cking miss those A LOT. :)

Mmmmmm Tim Tams…. crap. Stupid sugar detox week.

Thanks Rachel! And maybe you’re just a friendlier person :-) . I always go ok in zoos or reserves where they’re used to people, but around camping sites…no joy.

I haven’t had tim tams in ages! Now I really want some.
