A Foot to Remember

Well, what a ridiculous day.

First of all, I’m a featured blogger on Healthy Living Blogs today – check out my ‘Day in the Life’ post.

Secondly – BEST finish line face EVAH

Also, I’d like to link you to another Melbourne Marathon race recap – my wonderful twitter friend Lars smashed his goals with a 3:29 in his first marathon.

Finish line face

I am a day late with my post – by the time I got home last night I couldn’t string a sentence together, let alone write my thoughts coherently. I had no idea just how exhausted I was!

Let’s start with Mental Monday, shall we? I am fully aware it’s Tuesday, but just for a tic, and for alliteration’s sake, it’s Monday. Ok?

Mental Monday

Here’s my Mental Monday negative:

I am not going to see Mr The Rake for 12 days.

As much as I laugh at him, I adore him, and not having your best friend around can be tough. Long stretches without him suck. No question.

Instead, I am going to focus on a positive thought:

In 3 weeks, uni will be over. For good. All I have to do is get through.

What’s your Mental Monday (or Tuesday!) moment?

The Key

Today I went out for lunch with a friend. Amanda and I went to kindergarten together when we were 4. 20 years later, we can still catch up over lunch and talk about anything.

At 1:30pm I caught the bus home. No drama. Dad was heading home at 4 to take me to the airport, and I was going to do some work.

I jumped off the bus (slowly, ever so slowly) and walked home to find that not one of the ten keys Dad had given me fit in the lock on the front door.

I tried them all again. And again.

Everyone can break into their own house. Fact.

At this house, plan B is to jump a fence and get to the back door (to which I had a key).

These legs were up to NO fence jumping today.

With no-one due home for an hour or so (I had to get to the airport), I made a decision. I walked the two kilometres into Diamond Creek, found myself in front of a tattoo parlour, and walked in.

40 minutes later:

Can you figure out the double meaning?

Dad called me to tell him he was on his way to pick me up. He asked where I was, and then asked if I’d been to the gym.

No, I’m at the tattoo parlour, on the corner opposite Shell.

Dad is a calm man, and it was clearly too late to discuss this. His response was perfect:

Oh shit.

Immediately followed by

Ok, I’ll be there at 3:20.

He took me home to pack, and as we got out of the car, I handed his faulty keys back. He looked at them for a second, and then put one in the front door.

It opened instantly.

Today’s Moment:

Definitely this!

Your Turn!

Best impulse decision you’ve ever made?
What’s your Mental Monday Moment?
Have you ever locked yourself out of the house?
The Tattoo has 2 meanings – can you guess them? Answer tomorrow. (Yes, anyone can guess – it’s not a personal one!)

Best impulse decision? Oh, there have been so many…so many that my parents can never know about because while they were awesome, I’m not sure that they would approve of some of them, or let me out of the house again…
Possibly the best one lately was sending an email to my lecturer about an internship position she had casually mentioned in class – I have a meeting in a few weeks!!
My negative Mental Monday? So many assignments. On the positive? Only three weeks of uni left for this year!
Congratulations again on your awesome feat (or should that be feet now?) this weekend, and I love your new body art :)

Bahaha so many stories in there. Congrats on the internship meeting – or do you have the gig?! Good luck! Stoopid uni (oh my eloquent language)

  3. Paul Adams says:

40 minutes to walk 2 kilometres!!! Double meaning? ;)

  4. jenna says:

i LOVE the tat! it’s so cute!!! i am so sorry you have to go such a stretch without seeing your rakey man! booo! once, in high school, my friend britt and i had to break into her house at 3am by getting a step and crawling through her open bedroom window. oopsie! oh, and my negative thought today was “dang nabbit. i actually have to make my own breakfast today instead of having a ginormous buffet the size of the united states spread out in front of me like ive been used to for the last 5 days! durhhh!” i combatted that thought with “heck yeah, i still got pumpkin waffles in the freezer! get in the toaster NOW!” rofl!! love ya kate! have a fab day!!! xxoo

  5. Jacqui Solly says:

Kate! I’ve only just clicked on your blog and my golly gosh, a girl can write! And well!
Firstly: Huge congrats on the marathon, running it and using it to work through your life “stuff”, something I’m not sure I could do. Kudos.
Secondly: there’s a tattoo parlor in Diamond Creek?!?!

I get combinations of warm fuzzies and “I’m old” seeing Lauren and her mates being all grown up!

Think I might go for a run tomorrow, just a little one ;)

    All the best xox

    • Kate says:

      Thanks Jacqui!

First – thank you, and yeah, not only that, but now everyone knows about it!
Secondly – yes, yes there is. I don’t even know the name. Chute street though. Keen? ;-)

I don’t feel very grown up, but sure! I still look up to you and your gang :-D

  6. Best.finish.line.face.EVER. And no tattoos for me. Although I did get a third hole in my ear once – very impulsive! I took it out when I finished college though, sadly it didn’t look very professional.

  8. LOVE the tattoo girl!!! I want to get one…but I’m super scared! Did it hurt really bad on that part of your foot? LOVE the race pic! They always seem to capture our worst faces don’t they? :-)

Girl I hate those finish line photos…why can’t they catch me at mile 1?! I love tattoos…you helped me with my photo a day pic ;) my best impulse decisions are races…or fun gifts for others…or tattoos I’ve been waiting to do and then find the right place to do them, life’s too short! ;)

Love the race pic! That’s aweome!

Tattoo, very cool! I don’t have any and I don’t think I ever will. I came close once…once. lol

  11. Mary says:

Love the finish line pic!! Well, that’s proof if nothing else that you just ran 26 miles!

I’m lovin the tattoo too! I got a tattoo when I was in Australia oh so many years ago – and that was a total impulse too! I’m guessing one of the double meanings is that 42 is the answer to everything (according to Hitchikers guide to the galaxy)???

  12. susie says:

Kate – love the finish line photo. It shows someone with the desire to finish a goal that they set themselves. Sometimes life isn’t easy, but you have certainly experienced enough already to give you the determination and desire that you will need for the next road your life leads you down.
Anyway on another note I’ve been locked out of the house by Brett when he came home years ago and I was out the back hanging washing. He just snibbed the door as he left. Had to climb a fence in my bare feet and knock on a neighbours door who I didn’t really know and beg for help!
Also the key thing must be genetic. Olivia was given a key and sat on the verandah for 30mins until I arrived stating the key did not open the door. I of course like your father opened it instantly. Aaahh genetics they’re a strange and mysterious thing! xxx

    • Kate says:

Thanks Susie – I loved your comment so much. I’ve got determination in spades, but sometimes I go too far and do things just because I can, not because I should (the marathon totally doesn’t count :-) ) – thank you.

That locked out story is excellent! Was that at the Weidlich Road house? Well you can tell Olivia I understand completely. And we should never be left alone together with the keys.

  13. I was going to say 42k and shoe size (though I have no idea how they size shoes down under!)

Love the tattoo, though. I got one a few years ago (45th birthday present to myself :-) ), I said to hell with it and got it on my shoulder. Now, almost 10 years later, I might be more discreet, but I still like it.

Love the finish pic, btw, it says a whole lot about a marathon.

LOVE the finish line face! It shows you really left it all out there on the course!

My guess on the tattoo: 42 km, and then is that an infinity on the tail of the 2? If not then I don’t know. And no tattoos for me.

Also, I guess that key didn’t work for you for a reason.

Oh! And ‘life, the universe and everything’?

And yes! Thanks Douglas Adams. Answer to the question, right there on my foot…pity we don’t know the question. I love the infinity idea! I am going to use that too.
